What is a Governor's Role at Ascot Heath Infant School?

At Ascot Heath Infant School, we think we can best define our role by saying that we are a diverse group of people with a common bond. We have the interest and welfare of the school, staff and pupils uppermost in our minds. Some of us may be experienced in one field or another, many of us just lay claim to being interested parents or citizens, but as a team we are prepared to tackle any task, great or small.

So what do we actually do? Well, we work with the Head Teacher and staff in managing the finances, buildings, staffing and recruitment, and ensuring that all the children can achieve their full potential.

Governing bodies have three main roles: to provide strategic direction for the school; to act as a critical friend to the Head Teacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and the school team; and to ensure accountability.

As a school governor you will need to get to know the school and attend meetings regularly, offer time and commitment and find out as much as possible about the community served by the school.
