Dear Parent/Carer

Pedestrian Safety and Parking

Since the start of the new school year you will probably have experienced the challenge of crossing Fernbank Road/New Road, close to the junction. There is very heavy traffic at the beginning and end of the school day. This has been made more difficult by the parking problems near to both the Infant and Junior schools.

We believe this situation is posing a significant danger to our children as they arrive at and leave school. This is to inform you of the actions proposed by both schools and also to ask for your help. We have been without a traffic controller ('lollypop' lady) since the spring and whilst this position has been advertised by Bracknell Forest Borough Council several times, unfortunately there have not been any applicants. Consequently, we feel that the only solution to this problem is to have a permanent pedestrian crossing installed and this is now being investigated by Bracknell Forest.

The problems with large lorries parking/waiting near the warehouse in New Road have also been reported to both the Police and BFBC. Steps have been taken to ensure safety and to minimise the impact of the lorries that access this site.

In the meantime, we would ask everyone to please walk to school. If this is not possible please park safely, legally and with consideration for others, well away from the school site. It is essential that you avoid the junction of New Road with Fernbank Road and walk the remaining distance.

Meanwhile, we would be delighted to hear from anyone with ideas or a solution to this problem.

You will shortly hear more about the process to secure a crossing. With thanks in advance for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
